Is your drinking water or wastewater utility prepared for an earthquake? The New Madrid Seismic Zone (NMSZ) covers parts of eight states and is vulnerable to strong earthquakes. Impacts to water and wastewater utilities can be significant. Therefore, EPA is hosting two webinars for water and wastewater utilities in the NMSZ that will cover the following topics:
- Webinar #1: Earthquake Threats and Helpful Tools (February 23, 2021)
Covers threats in the NMSZ; EPA’s earthquake resilience products specifically for water and wastewater utilities; a utility case study and an overview of mutual aid programs.
- Webinar #2: Earthquake Mitigation and Funding (February 24, 2021)
Several water and wastewater utilities discuss ways to mitigate earthquake threats, federal and state officials discuss how to get funding to implement mitigation measures.
An application will be submitted for water and wastewater operators from the eight states vulnerable to a NMSZ earthquake to earn training hours for participating in the webinars.
